Dundalk is halfway between Dublin and Belfast, an 80 km catchment area that includes in excess of 3 million
people. Located on the M1/N1, the busiest economic corridor in Ireland, and served by high speed rail that
makes Belfast and Dublin both easily commutable, it seems fair to say that Dundalk is at the centre of things.
It’s no wonder that the town is primed to become Ireland’s first new city of the 21st Century.
Dundalk was selected as a Gateway Centre for Development under the Irish Government’s National Spatial
Strategy and is progressing fast. An excellent infrastructure is in place: road, rail, telecoms, power, water and
waste management are developed to a highly sophisticated degree. Dublin Airport is a 45 minute journey
along the new M1, and Belfast airport is an hour away.
The Dundalk area has considerable technological expertise thanks in no small way to the Dundalk Institute of
Technology and as such the region plays host to world leading companies such as ABB, Coca Cola, Littelfuse
(GE), DIAGEO, Quantum, Vesta Corporation and Heinz.
Shopping is developed at many levels. There are charming antique shops, old world shopfronts, cafes and
bars in the town centre. There are a number of the country’s best retail parks on the periphery of the town and
there is the impressive centrally located Marshes Shopping Centre with many international high street names.
The town also boasts a dynamic pub, restaurant and cafe culture especially in the summer evenings, and
there are many fine venues for an evening out.
